There’s a big difference between character and reputation. Reputation is who people think we are. Character is who we really are when no one else is looking. When we walk in integrity - "in the light" - character and reputation are closely aligned.
This life of integrity flows out of our abiding in Christ, of whom Paul speaks in Philippians 2. The one virtue above all others that Paul wants the church to display is humility. He says we are to humble ourselves in the way that Jesus humbled himself.
